Derek Lau

Derek joined Heliconia as CEO and Board member in April 2013. Heliconia, a wholly owned subsidiary of Temasek, is an investment firm that focuses on growth-oriented companies. Prior to Heliconia, Derek was the Managing Director of Temasek Holdings. In his 10 years tenor with Temasek, he led a number of major transactions in the TMT, Consumer Lifestyle and Industrials sectors. He also served as country head in Vietnam overseeing investments in Vietnam, Myanmar, Cambodia and Laos markets.

Derek has more than a decade of experience in investment banking before joining Temasek having served with UBS, Dresdner Kleinwort Benson and Commerzbank AG. He specialized in mezzanine debt, project finance, leveraged buyout and private equity investments. He is currently a board member of Singapore Cooperation Enterprise (SCE) and council member of Singapore Institute of Directors (SID). Derek is also serving on the Listings Advisory Committee of Singapore Exchange Limited (SGX) .

Derek holds a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from the National University of Singapore and graduated from the Royal Military Academy, Sandhurst (UK).
