About us

A note from Nielsen on COVID-19

As we closely monitor the spread of COVID-19 and its impact on communities across the globe, our hearts go out to all those who have been affected. In these uncertain times, all of us at Nielsen are reminded of our responsibility to do what we can to help prevent the spread of the virus. Our number one priority is protecting the health and well-being of you, of your loved ones, and of our employees. We will return to in-person visits to homes based on local governmental and medical guidance, taking appropriate social distancing and PPE measures.

We are so very thankful for your partnership with us as you take part in the ratings. As a Nielsen Family, your contribution to the ratings is especially important in challenging times like these.

As always, your Nielsen team is here for you if you have any questions.

Nielsen TV Homes

What’s next starts with you

English | Español

You’ve been invited to be part of the Nielsen ratings, and we hope you accept this unique opportunity. When you participate, you play a very important role—it’s a chance to get your voice heard and represent thousands of homes in your area. Through the help of people like you, we provide information about what audiences watch to the TV industry, media companies, and other businesses. Only a select few are invited to participate, so this is your chance to make your choices count.

How it works

Our Nielsen Representatives will give you everything you need to participate and help you get started. By viewing TV as you normally do—whether it’s a little or a lot—you’re letting us know what you like to watch. Your viewing information is collected securely and sent to Nielsen, where it is combined with other participating households in your area and analyzed to get the TV ratings. We share this information with the TV industry and media companies so they can program shows that people like you want to watch. And you’re even given thank-you gifts for participating.

FAQ – Selection process

How can I participate in the ratings?

We can’t ask every home to participate, so we carefully select a sample of homes from communities all over the country to represent the entire TV audience. Households are randomly selected, and every household in the U.S. has a chance of being selected, no matter where it is located.

If I work for Nielsen or in the TV industry, can I participate?

You aren’t eligible for participation if you, your immediate family members, domestic partners or members of your household work for Nielsen. In addition, if you work in the TV or media industries (or anything related to it), you aren’t eligible to participate.

FAQ – Invitation to join

I received mail from Nielsen. Is it legitimate?

Yes, the envelope may have contained either a short survey about television viewing that we would like you to complete and return in the postage-paid envelope or the envelope may have contained a letter inviting you to participate in the Nielsen ratings.

What if a Nielsen Representative visits my home?
